National Network of State School Improvement Leaders Archive


National Network of State School Improvement Leaders (NNSSIL) was officially launched in September 2008 at the Center on Innovation and Improvement’s (CII’s) Annual Institute for School Improvement and Education Options as a collaborative partnership initiative between CII and CCSSO, with a staff member from each organization designated as co-coordinators of the initiative. It came about as a result of a critical mass of state school improvement leaders and organization leaders having come together ad hoc in the past with a desire to share their professional practices and knowledge.


The mission of the NNSSIL was to provide collegial support among state leaders of school improvement to build, utilize, and disseminate a robust body of knowledge of professional practices leading to systemic educational change.


  • To provide continuous learning among members to most effectively lead a strong statewide system of support in each state and territory
  • To increase the shared knowledge across states and the facilitation of improved practices through coordinated work
  • To align the conditions and working relationships between the federal and state systems of support
